Are You Prepared?

Accidents can happen anywhere, anytime, and often without warning. According to statistics compiled by the National Safety Council, the top five causes of unintentional injury deaths in the home and in the community in the United States in 2008 were:

  1. Poisoning
  2. Falls
  3. Choking
  4. Drowning
  5. Fire

The estimated total number of unintentional injury deaths in the home and in the community in 2008 was approximately 76,700. As well, the estimated total number of disabling injuries that same year was 20,500,000. The cost of these afflictions cost approximately $285 billion. Equally as important to know is that one out of 15 people experienced an injury in the home or the community in 2008. One out of 4000 people suffered death as a result of their injury. Important to remember is that these are just instances involving individuals in the home and the community, not workplace related accidents.*

In all of these situations, administering CPR and first aid can mean the difference between life and death. In any event, a person may find themselves paralyzed when a medical emergency occurs. In most instances, an individual’s fear does not stem from the incident itself, but more so from not knowing what to do next. By taking part in CPR, first aid, and safety instruction, you are preparing to be the one to handle any situation no matter how big or small. As our motto implies, the professional instruction we provide helps the build the confidence needed to react when your help is needed most.
